Question

How to manage Plesk from a mobile device after Plesk Mobile is retired

Answer

The Plesk Mobile apps for iOS and Android and the Plesk Mobile Center extension are deprecated.

What changes

  • From Plesk Obsidian 18.0.82, the Plesk Mobile apps and the Plesk Mobile Center extension are no longer available for new installations.
  • On upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.84, the Plesk Mobile Center extension is removed from the server and cannot be installed again, including from a backup. The Mobile Center button in Tools & Settings and the push notification task are removed with it.
  • Plesk Mobile apps that are already installed on phones are not removed, but they are no longer supported and do not receive updates. On a server without the extension, the app loses its server management features: services, events and push notifications, logs, server statistics, server restart, and license management.

How to manage Plesk from a mobile device

  1. Open the Plesk interface in the browser on your phone and log in with your Plesk username and password, see How to log in to Plesk. The Plesk interface adapts to small screens.

  2. To receive email alerts about server resource usage, go to Tools & Settings > Notifications and enable The resource usage threshold has been exceeded and The resource usage value is back to normal. See How to manage email notifications in Plesk.

  3. On Plesk for Linux, the Watchdog extension keeps services running and watches free disk space, see How to install/remove and enable/disable Watchdog?

Clean up after the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.84 (server administrators)

Plesk Mobile created an API secret key on the server for every phone that connected as the administrator. These keys stay on the server after the extension is removed. Keys created by Plesk Mobile are bound to the server's own IP address and have a device identifier as their description.

  1. Connect to the server via SSH (Plesk for Linux) or RDP (Plesk for Windows).

  2. List the API secret keys. The output shows the key IDs, the IP addresses they are bound to, and their descriptions.

    Plesk for Linux:

    # plesk bin secret_key --list

    Plesk for Windows:

    C:\> plesk bin secret_key --list

  3. Delete each key that Plesk Mobile created and that you no longer need, by its ID. For example, to delete the key with ID 3:

Warning: Do not delete keys that your other integrations use.

    # plesk bin secret_key --delete -key 3

    On Plesk for Windows:

    C:\> plesk bin secret_key --delete -key 3

  4. If you restricted administrative access from the Plesk Mobile app for Android, review those rules in Tools & Settings > Restrict Administrative Access. They are regular Plesk rules and keep working after the extension is removed.

Hosting providers

From Plesk Obsidian 18.0.83, the Plesk login page no longer shows the banner that invites users to install the Plesk Mobile app. A [mobileApps] section in panel.ini has no effect after that. To remove it, create a backup copy of panel.ini first, then edit the file, see How to edit Plesk panel.ini.
