Plesk WP Toolkit is showing warning about incompatible/outdated PHP version on a CloudLinux with PHP Selector

Plesk for Linux kb: technical ext: wptk

Symptoms

  • WP-Toolkit shows warning about unused outdated PHP version in WordPress > example.com > Dashboard menu
  • Errors about outdated/incompatible PHP version trigger during attempts to update/clone/install or remove plugins on WordPress instance.
  • PHP selector for CloudLinux is enabled for the domain
  • CloudLinux 8.x or 7.x is used on the server
  • LSAPI is used on the server (PHP handler for domain is "LSPHP by OS vendor")

Cause

WP Toolkit isn't fully compatible with CloudLinux PHP Selector yet, and detects/uses OS-native PHP version, which is not outdated or incompatible with WordPress installation.

This behavior is marked as EXTWPTOOLK-10883, and planned to be fixed in future releases of WP Toolkit.

Resolution

Workaround 1

Disable CloudLinux PHP Selector for domain (if operations fail), and select compatible PHP version in Domains > example.com > Dashboard > PHP menu.

Workaround 2

Update the server to CloudLinux 9.x
