Can't enable Acronis Backup in Plesk: Error 401: Unauthorized

Symptoms

  • The Acronis Backup extension can't be enabled in Plesk. The following error is logged to /usr/local/psa/var/modules/acronis-backup/srv/log/main.log:

    [INFO] SrvResponse: {"id": "634c3ff42c817", "error": {"code": -32055, "message": "Client error (http code: 401) is received from https://us5-cloud.acronis.com/api/1/groups/self/backupconsole"}, "jsonrpc": "2.0"}

  • Trying to register manually as instructed in the Acronis documentation fails

    Unable to create IDP token: HTTP Error 401: Unauthorized

Cause

Two-factor authentication is enabled in Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud.

Resolution

2FA needs to be disabled for the account used with the extension; either:

  • Disable 2FA in Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud for the account used to connect to the integration system, or
  • Create a new dedicated account to be used with the integration system.
