Question
BIND for Windows is deprecated and removed as of Plesk 18.0.70.
Does the Slave DNS Manager extension for Plesk support Microsoft DNS? From then on, only Microsoft DNS is the default option that is supported by Plesk.
Answer
The Slave DNS Manager extension requires the rndc
tool to synchronize zones between servers, which is a part of BIND. It is not possible to adapt the BIND native method for Microsoft DNS, which means the Slave DNS Manager extension will not work without BIND or other rndc
tools for Windows.
There is currently a feature suggestion related to this, which can be viewed and voted on for implementation:
Feature suggestions that have the most votes and active discussions are most likely to be implemented in future versions of Plesk.
A workaround exists, which is to place BIND's rndc.exe in the following location:
%plesk_dir%\dns\bin\rndc.exe
As the rndc.exe tool is part of BIND which has been deprecated by its vendor, this workaround is to be applied at one's own risk and is not recommended. The latest BIND for Windows version is 9.16 and the extension is not guaranteed to work with this or future versions.
Alternatively, we advise to consider other DNS integration extensions which are available for Plesk for Windows, such as the following:
It is also possible for a custom integration script to be created by using the information on the following page of the Plesk Obsidian documentation:
