Unable to update/install/clone WordPress instance: Allowed memory size of X bytes exhausted

Symptoms

  • Unable to install WordPress or check WordPress updates in Plesk, the following error is shown:

    PLESK_INFO: PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1966080 bytes) in /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/js_composer/config/map.php on line 2352

  • In an attempt to clone/scan/refresh WordPress instance, the process fails with the same error.
  • The WordPress instance can be marked as broken in Plesk > WordPress.

Cause

Not sufficient memory_limit value is set in PHP settings of the affected domain.

Resolution

  1. Log into Plesk.
  2. Increase value for memory_limit option for the affected domain using the steps from the article below:
  3. For broken WordPress instance go to Extensions > My Extensions > WP  Toolkit > Open and press the Refresh button (which is highlighted on the screenshot below):
