How does WP Toolkit check for plugin updates?

Why do WP Toolkit and the WordPress dashboard sometimes show different information about plugin updates? For example, WP Toolkit may not show newer versions, while the WordPress dashboard shows an update for a plugin, or the other way around.

Answer

WP Toolkit uses the native wp-cli utility to check for plugin updates. There may be differences with plugins that use update methods incompatible with wp-cli (common with paid plugins). If the WordPress > Plugins tab doesn't show information about an update, contact the plugin vendor for help.
