FATAL: Peer authentication failed for user "admin"

Symptoms

• The following error message appears in /var/log/postgresql/postgresql-xx-main.log:

CONFIG_TEXT: [821465] admin@postgres LOG: provided user name (admin) and authenticated user name (psaadm) do not match
[821465] admin@postgres FATAL: Peer authentication failed for user "admin"

Cause

PostgreSQL administrator credentials stored in the psa database aren't updated.

Resolution

1. Log in to Plesk.
2. Go to Tools & Settings > Database Servers and click localhost next to PostgreSQL.
3. Re-enter or change the user admin password.
4. Click Ok.
