Question
How to change the number of simultaneous threads during Plesk migration, for example, to speed up or to slow down a migration?
Answer
The number of simultaneous threads defines how many subscriptions Plesk Migrator processes at the same time, including the number of parallel rsync processes that synchronize content between the source and the target servers. The threads are configured with the following parameters in the migration session configuration file:
-
multithreading-statuswith one of the following values:-
disabled— multithreading is disabled, the migration runs serially. -
default— multithreading is enabled only for a very limited set of actions, for example, the create subscription action. -
full— by-subscription multithreading is enabled. This value is used by default.
-
-
multithreading-num-workers— the number of threads running at the same time. The default value is 5.There is no limit on the numbers
To change the number of simultaneous threads, perform the following steps:
- Log into Plesk
- Start the migration at Tools & Settings > Migration & Transfer Manager.
-
Once the migration is prepared and the list of subscriptions is displayed, connect to the target server via SSH.
Note: If direct SSH access to the server is not possible, contact the server administrator for further assistance.
-
Create a backup copy of the migration session configuration file:
Note: Replace <timestamp> with the name of the migration session directory in /usr/local/psa/var/modules/panel-migrator/sessions/.
# cp -a /usr/local/psa/var/modules/panel-migrator/sessions/<timestamp>/config.ini /usr/local/psa/var/modules/panel-migrator/sessions/<timestamp>/config.ini.bak
-
Open the file
/usr/local/psa/var/modules/panel-migrator/sessions/<timestamp>/config.iniin a text editor.Warning: Increasing the number of threads may cause unpredictable issues on the source server and is not recommended. The number of parallel disk I/O operations will increase
-
Add the
multithreading-statusandmultithreading-num-workersparameters to the[GLOBAL]section at the bottom of the file. For example, the following parameters set the number of threads to 3:CONFIG_TEXT: [GLOBAL]
multithreading-status: full
multithreading-num-workers: 3 - Save the changes and close the file.
- Continue the migration in Plesk.
- Log into Plesk
- Start the migration at Tools & Settings > Migration & Transfer Manager.
-
Once the migration is prepared and the list of subscriptions is displayed, connect to the target server via RDP.
Note: If direct RDP access to the server is not possible, contact the server administrator for further assistance.
- Start a command prompt as an Administrator.
-
Create a backup copy of the migration session configuration file:
Note: Replace <timestamp> with the name of the migration session directory in %plesk_dir%\var\modules\panel-migrator\sessions\.
C:\> copy "%plesk_dir%\var\modules\panel-migrator\sessions\<timestamp>\config.ini" "%plesk_dir%\var\modules\panel-migrator\sessions\<timestamp>\config.ini.bak"
-
Open the file
%plesk_dir%\var\modules\panel-migrator\sessions\<timestamp>\config.iniin a text editor.Warning: Increasing the number of threads may cause unpredictable issues on the source server and is not recommended.
