Symptoms

Migration fails:

CONFIG_TEXT: Migration tools tried to perform operation in 3 attempts: Unable to create subscription 'example.com'.

cannot use a string pattern on a bytes-like object

Cause

Product issue:

  • #PMT-5365 "Fixed the issue where, during the migration, the error message about limits being exceeded was hidden by the “cannot use a string pattern on a bytes-like object” error message."

Workaround

If update is not possible for some reason you may try the following

workaround

Until the bug is fixed, check debug log for the exact error message:

  1. Log in to Plesk.

  2. Go to Tools & Settings > Migration & Transfer Manager > Log tab.

  3. Enable the Show debug messages checkbox and expand the latest section marked with exclamation sign !, search for the found errors in Plesk knowledge base.
