Customer unable to create subscription backup in Plesk: You can only store backups in a remote storage, but no remote storage is currently configured

Plesk for Windows Plesk for Linux

Symptoms

  • Customer attempt to create a subscription backup in Backup Manager returns the following error:

Error: You can only store backups in a remote storage, but no remote storage is currently configured. Configure remote storage in Remote Storage Settings.

  • No remote storage is configured under Backup Manager > Remote Storage Settings.

Cause

Customer's subscription has permissions to create backups on remote storage only and remote storage (e.g. FTP) is not configured.

Resolution

  1. Log into Plesk.

  2. Configure a remote (e.g. FTP) backup storage under Customer's account in Backup Manager > Remote Storage Settings. New backups will be stored in the configured remote storage.

  3. Grant the customer's subscription permission to create backups on the local server. Under Administrator account go to Subscriptions > example > Customize (on the right Account sidebar) > Permissions > Check the box Backup and restoration of subscription data using the server storage and Apply the changes.

Note: It's possible to also provide permission to the Service Plan and synchronize it with the subscription

In case of Web Admin License

In case of a Web Admin License, go to Tools & Settings > Restricted Mode Settings and check the boxes Backup and restoration of subscription data using the server storage & Backup and restoration of account data using the server storage.

Note: Should the menu Restricted Mode Settings is not shown in Tools & Settings, unlock is with the following command:

# plesk bin poweruser --set -simple false -lock false
