Question

How to configure smarthost on a server-wide level / per-domain level in Plesk for Linux?

Answer

Note: Read Additional Information section below before configuring smarthost.

Server-wide smarthost
  1. Log in to Plesk.
  2. Go to Tools & Settings > Smarthost (Mail section).
  3. Enter your Smarthost connection details.
  4. Apply the changes.

Domain-level smarthost
  1. Log in to Plesk.
  2. Go to Domainsexample.com > Mail tab > Smarthost.
  3. Select the checkbox Send users' mail via a smarthost.
  4. Enter your smarthost connection details.
  5. Apply the changes.

Note: Smarthosts for domains take priority over the Plesk server-wide smarthost, if it is configured.

Additional Information

  • Server-level smarthost configuration is available starting from Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64. Domain-level smarthost configuration is available starting from Plesk Obsidian 18.0.76.
  • If you have configured smarthost / relayhost manually via Postfix configuration, enabling the smarthost feature via Plesk will overwrite existing smarthost / relayhost configuration. See section "Configuring a Smarthost After a Previous Manual Configuration" on this Plesk Docs page.
  • Plesk Mail Forwarding feature may not work with some smarthosts (for example, SendGrid).
  • To learn more about smarthost configuration in Plesk, see this Plesk Docs page.
