Symptoms

  • An e-mail is received with "mail loop detected"
  • No forwarding is configured for the mailbox in Domains > example.com > E-Mail Addresses > johndoe@example.com > Forwarding

  • The following error can be found in /var/log/maillog:

    # May 4 13:37:42 123456 postfix/pipe[12345]: ABCDEFGHIJ: to=johndoe@example.com, relay=plesk_virtual, delay=0.12, delays=0.11/0/0/0.01, dsn=5.4.6, status=bounced (mail forwarding loop for johndoe@example.com)

Broken mailserver configuration

Resolution

Warning: Executing plesk repair mail might revert customizations on the mailserver.

  1. Connect to the server via SSH

  2. Execute the following command:

    # plesk repair mail example.com
