Unable to connect to a Plesk for Windows server via FTP when the server is behind NAT: PASV FTP error ECONNABORTED

Symptoms

  • A Plesk Server is behind NAT.

  • When accessing a Plesk server via FTP in the passive mode using the external IP address, the connection fails with the following error message:

    CONFIG_TEXT: Error: Disconnected from server: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted
    Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

  • When accessing a Plesk server via FTP in the passive mode using the internal IP address, the connection fails with the following error message:

    CONFIG_TEXT: 425-Cannot open data connection.
    Win32 error: The network connection was aborted by the local system.
    Error details: Client IP on the control channel didn't match the client IP on the data channel.

Cause

FTP firewall settings are not configured in IIS on a Windows server.

Resolution

  1. Connect to the Plesk server via RDP.

  2. Start a command prompt as an Administrator and run the following command to start IIS Manager:

    C:\> start inetmgr

  3. In IIS Manager, click SERVERNAME > FTP Firewall Support.

  4. Specify the passive FTP port range and the external IP address of an edge firewall. Once done, click Apply.
