Question

How to prevent Plesk backups to consume all free disk space or prevent backup start if there is not enough free space on the server?

Answer

  1. Login to Plesk.

  2. Open Tools & Settings > Backup Manager > Settings.

  3. Enable option Start the backup only if your server has the sufficient amount of free disk space.

    OR

If it is required to set a specific amount of free space on the server for backup to start, type the necessary amount in megabytes in option Start the backup only if your server has the specified amount of free disk space.

  • Does this work for scheduled subscriptions specific backups as well as manual backups?

  • Is it possible to change this setting from command line? how?
Start the backup only if your server has the sufficient amount of free disk space.

I didn't found any plesk binary to do it, and I neither found any setting at database “plesk db "SELECT * FROM BackupsSettings;"” nor at panel.ini editor.

    Any suggestion?

  • it sounds like the options should be mutually exclusive: either state the minimum available disk space or tell the backup process to check if the backup is small enough. This is also indicated at https://docs.plesk.com/en-US/obsidian/administrator-guide/backing-up-and-restoration/global-backup-settings.59265/.

In fact, the settings screen does not allow an empty value for the minimum available disk space.

And btw: even if there is a value set, it is still a nogo if the backup process fills up the whole disk! There needs to be some sort of safety check!
