Is it possible to restore files from a remote Plesk backup without downloading the full backup file?

kb: bug Plesk for Windows Plesk for Linux ABT: Group B

Applicable to:

  • Plesk for Linux
  • Plesk for Windows

Question

Is it possible to restore files from a remote Plesk backup without downloading the full backup file?

Answer

  • In Plesk Obsidian, when restoring individual objects (for example, one subscription) from a remote Plesk backup, only a backup of a subscription will be downloaded.

Note: If two or more subscriptions are restored at once, the full archive will be downloaded anyway.

  • In Plesk Onyx, the whole backup is downloaded from remote storage.

Alternative solutions
  • Create a backup for each subscription separately (see "Creating a backup via Plesk: Subscription backup" in this article). This will reduce the download time of a remote backup.

  • On Linux, mount a network share (e.g. NFS) to a Plesk server and store backups there instead of uploading them to remote storage.

Also, the corresponding feature request with ID PPM-2517 exists and it will address this behavior.
It is going to be implemented in future Plesk releases.
