Question
Does Plesk support RHEL9/AlmaLinux 9?
Answer
Support for RHEL 9 and Almalinux 9 is available starting from Plesk Obsidian 18.0.48.
Known limitations:
-
PHP 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 are currently cannot be installed via Plesk Installer.
Note: Unsupported PHP handlers can be added to Plesk manually at your own will and risk.
-
Watchdog is not available.
-
Mailman is currently not available.
Mail forwarding can be used as an alternative.
-
NetworkManager is currently not supported, but is planned to be introduced in upcoming versions. Implementation will be announced in the Plesk Change Log.
As a workaround it can be used but without key config files within /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ directory, for reference please see PPS-15582
- Qmail is not available due to issues with
xinetd
dependencies. -
Webalizer is not available because it is not present in the vendor's repositories.

Hello, in a previous version of this article there was a limitation about Docker with AlmaLinux 9. Is there still this limitation? I can't find any information about this in the changelogs.
Hello Stefano,
This information was removed from the article by mistake. Thank you for bringing our attention to this.
It is still not supported indeed. I have restored the corresponding information to the article.
Any updates? Especially related to the Plesk Email Security Extension, which is not mentioned in the article, but as far as my last check. It is yet to support AlmaLinux 9.2.x.
Hello elnco | Canada,
Plesk Email Security is indeed not supported on Almalinux 9.It is planned to be implemented later this year. I have updated the article to reflect that.
Hi Anton
When are you going to support Rocky Linux 9, too?
Would be very helpful! :-)
Regards, Marcus
Hi Marcus
We do not have an ETA for Rocky Linux 9 support at this moment.
You can vote for this feature on our Uservoice page:

re: Imunify360, their page currently lists "AlmaLinux 8,9" as supported...
Hi,
I'm coming from CentOS 7 now and be wondering, why I can't use AlmaLinux 9 without limitations yet. It's out for a while and migrating to AlmaLinux 8, which is end of feature support already (just getting security updates) is a bit senseless, as I know, I need to migrate soon again, maybe also already with the next release available in the meantime.
Additional I wonder about Watchdog at all. It's available as Plesk extension on AlmaLinux 8, but it's shipped with a service check for PHP FPM, which seems to be obsolete and not working any more, same for rkhunter, the shipped version of rkhunter is outdated and config coming with installing the Plesk extension throws warnings. Need to adjust following Plesk forum recommendations to get it running without warnings. Shouldn't Plesk ship extensions and help to administrate a server without need to go to shell (knowing about IT)?
Last I'm looking for information on the new "preferred" OS by Plesk team. Recently it was CentOS 7 (also your demo servers run on CentOS 7), but they still do.
Regards
Christian
Plesk currently has support for PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.0 in both Alma Linux 8 and Alma Linux 9, but it is not reflected in this article. Would it be possible for it to be updated?
re: PHP 5 and 7.0, that's interesting because at one point I had to build PHP 5.6 on one of ours but I checked and it is now offered via the Installer. Thanks for pointing that out.
Per Plesk announcement that any hoster who is using eol cents 7.x should migrate to a supported OS, we did so by migrating to almalinux 9.x but now are finding out that the official almalinux Network configuration tool (Network Manager) is not supported! Why would that information wasn't provided as configuring the network is a critical component!!!! :-( More important what should hosters do if they migrated to almalinux 9.x?
Any updates ??
Hi Nicolas,
What kind of update are you expecting?
A total support of almalinux 9 with plesk included watchdog, qmail ...
Watchdog and qmail are not supported due to incompatibility with modern libraries in Almalinux 9, and most of the functionality is available via other soft (e.g. postfix instead of qmail). If you have any specific reason why you need that exact software, feel free to describe it in a feature request here:
https://plesk.uservoice.com
So then maybe it's time for cleanup / update statements. As mentioned before upgrading from CentOS 7 (or sth. similar) to AlmaLinux 8 is a bit "stupid" as from an outdated system to a system, which is only in security maintenance phase is the worser selection than upgrading to a most up to date version (like 9), which should work out for years again, also being release for a while. However, you don't completely support, but also that may differ then in statement: Features, which won't be supported any more (so may be describe, they are deprecated and/or provide alternatives) or features, which aren't built in yet. So I expect, qmail won't come again and because of e.g. Postfix or Exim it's no shame, qmail wasn't really great. Webalizer as well, if not in any kind of EPEL repos, there were better statistic tools. For Mailman you provide an alternative, for Network Management, another solution is required. From my side issue is about older PHP versions (not anymore, but was) but primary Watchdog. So will it be replaced, by what? Is there an alternative? As mentioned on another article, rkhunter module shipped is outdated as well and settings are not optimized, that it would run out of the box. Also Watchdog PHP-FPM monitoring feature is somehow broken. So maybe decide to deprecate, replace or sth. else instead of just telling, it is not available as that sounds like it would come again and Plesk isn't yet stable on AlmaLinux 9.
