Slow FTP(S) connections causing client timouts

Symptoms

• Slow FTP(S) connections causing client timeouts.

• FTP connection fails with the following message in the /var/log/secure:

  CONFIG_TEXT: proftpd[1266939]: pam_systemd(proftpd:session): Failed to create session: Connection timed out
  proftpd[1266939]: pam_unix(proftpd:session): session opened for user jdoe by (uid=0)

• There is a hung systemd-logind process:

  # ps auxff | grep systemd-logind
  root 145 0.0 0.0 26336 1688 ? Ss Jul25 0:03 /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-logind

• If Qmail is being used, mail delivery may be affected.

Cause

Hung systemd-logind process slows/fails FTP connection

Resolution

1. Connect to the Plesk server via SSH.

2. Restart the systemd-logind service:

# systemctl restart systemd-logind
