Question
CentOS 7 reaches end-of-life on June 30, 2024. Does Plesk support an in-place upgrade from Centos 7 to AlmaLinux 8?
Answer
We have prepared a public beta CLI script that in-place converts a Plesk server with CentOS 7 to AlmaLinux 8. The script can be used to convert a Plesk server and check the result before CentOS EOL.
This feature is planned to be fully delivered in July 2023.
Note: The feature is based on the Alma Linux ELevate project, which leans heavily on the LEAPP Project created for in-place upgrades of RedHat-based systems. Since the Elevate engine does not support direct conversion to RHEL 9 like OSes (AlmaLinux 9, RHEL 9, RockyLinux 9), the conversion will be possible only from Plesk on CentOS 7 to AlmaLinux 8. We will consider implementing an upgrade path from CentOS 7 to Almalinux 8 and further to Almalinux 9, however, for now, we are concentrating on the CentOS 7 -> AlmaLinux 8 upgrade path.
While this script is in beta, any issues related to the conversion may be reported on GitHub and/or by email beta-extensions@plesk.com. Currently, we do not provide help with the conversion via Plesk Support.

You state ELevate does not support a further upgrade to AL9/RHEL9/RL9.

The ELevate website states differently. Will your Plesk script be supporting a further upgrade 8 to 9 or not?
Hello,
Thank you for your question. The direct upgrade path from CentOS 7 to Almalinux 9 is not supported. We will consider adding the possibility of adding the upgrade path CentOS 7 -> Almalinux 8 -> Almalinux 9 in the future. However, currently, we are fully concentrated on the CentOS7 -> Almalinux 8 upgrade scenario.
