Plesk Installer fails: ERROR while trying to backup MySQL/MariaDB database

Symptoms

• Plesk pre-upgrade checker produces the following warning message:

  PLESK_WARN: EMERGENCY: Unable to change the owner of files in the /var/lib/psa/dumps/ directory. The upgrade procedure will fail.

• Upgrade log file /tmp/plesk_11.0.9_installation.log contains:

  CONFIG_TEXT: === Preparing upgrade
  chown: changing ownership of `/storage/mysql.preupgrade.11.0.9-11.0.9.20130616-153540.dump.gz': Operation not permitted

Cause

An incorrect value of DUMP_D variable is set in /etc/psa/psa.conf file.

Resolution

1. Connect to the Plesk server via SSH.

2. Change DUMP_D variable in /etc/psa/psa.conf file to the default value:

   # cat /etc/psa/psa.conf | grep DUMP
   
   DUMP_D /var/lib/psa/dumps
   DUMP_TMP_D /tmp
