Wrong permissions on files uploaded with WordPress or its plugins

Plesk for Windows kb: technical

Applicable to:

  • Plesk for Windows

Symptoms

  • Files uploaded to a WordPress site get incorrect permissions

  • Backups of this site finish with this warning:

Not all the data from C:\Inetpub\vhosts\example.com was backed up successfully:
Unable to get attributes of the file C:\Inetpub\vhosts\example.com\httpdocs\wp-content\uploads\picture.png: (5) Access is denied. The file will not be archived.

Cause

FastCGI settings are turned off in Domains > example.com > PHP. This option enables an upload directory with the correct permissions. Without it, the wrong permissions are inherited.

Resolution

  1. Log in to Plesk

  2. Go to Domains > example.com > PHP

  3. Enable FastCGI settings
