Unable to update Plesk: The installation of the package 'aspnetcore-3.1' failed with code 1603

Symptoms

• Unable to update Plesk with the following error in C:\ProgramData\Plesk\Installer\autoinstaller3.log file:

  CONFIG_TEXT: Unable to install exe package 'C:\ProgramData\Plesk\Installer\cache\ASPNETCORE-WIN\thirdparty-windows\dotnet-hosting-3.1.3-win.exe' with error 1603(0x00000643). Output:
  
  Sub-action 'InstallExe' failed with error code: 1603(0x00000643)
  
  

• When manually installing the package from the error message, it fails with the "0x80070643" error code.

Cause

Some packages pending a Windows restart.

Resolution

1. Optional: Install the latest Windows updates.

2. Reboot the server.

3. Start a command prompt as an Administrator.

4. Rerun Plesk Update:

   C:\> plesk installer update

Note: Should the update still fail:

1. Go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features​ and uninstall all packages .NET 3.1.x installed.

2. Install it again using Plesk installer:

   C:\> plesk installer --select-release-current --install-component aspnetcore-3.1

3. Rerun Plesk Update:

   C:\> plesk installer update
