Question
How to switch the database server from MySQL to MariaDB on Plesk for Windows?
Answer
MariaDB 10.x is used as the default database server for new installations of Plesk Obsidian.
To switch MySQL to MariaDB manually, perform the following operations:
- Login to Plesk
- Go to Tools & Settings > Updates > Add/Remove Components
- Select MariaDB 10.x server for installation:
- Click Continue
Note: MariaDB will use the same databases so no further actions are required.

Howto do this on Ubuntu? Linux?
Hello Haeussler,
I would like to say that it is not recommended to replace the database server shipped by an OS vendor with another one, for example, replace MariaDB with MySQL, as this might lead to various issues afterwards. If it is necessary to perform such an operation this should be done manually at your own risk.
Hello Mikhail Shport,
i do not quite understand.
We did a "distupgrade" with Plesk from Ubuntu 16.xLTS to Ubuntu 18.xLTS. That was successful, but the database stayed with MySQL(5.7).
Now your (Plesk) instructions for DistUpgrade from Ubuntu 18.x LTS to 20.x LTS say that this would only be possible with MariaDB, but MySQL (5.7) is still running here. Hence my request here.
I'm not getting that option and you can see my server versions below.
