Question
Which MariaDB versions are supported by Plesk?
Answer
Plesk Obsidian for Linux:
- MariaDB 5.5-10.3.17
- MariaDB 10.4 and 10.5 starting from Plesk Obsidian 18.0.30.
- MariaDB 10.6 starting from Plesk Obsidian 18.0.41.
Plesk Obsidian for Windows:
The following versions are included in Plesk distribution packages:
- MariaDB 10.3.22 for both Plesk database and customer websites
- MariaDB 10.4 and 10.5 starting from Plesk Obsidian 18.0.30 for both Plesk database and customers’ websites.
- MariaDB 10.6 starting from Plesk Obsidian 18.0.41.
Note: When upgrading from Plesk Onyx to Plesk Obsidian, Plesk SQL Server (which hosts Plesk configuration database) is migrated to MariaDB, while customers database server is left as it is.

This article needs to be updated to reflect that Plesk Obsidian 18.0.30 now supports up to MariaDB 10.5.
@Boyan
Thank you for your comment, I have updated the article accordingly
I have installed Plesk Obsidian 18.0.30 but MariaDB is on version 10.1.46. How to upgrade to 10.3 or higher?
Gerwin Janssen
Plesk does not upgrade the DB server and it should be upgraded manually. Please see article for detailed instructions
Hello,
what will happen with Plesk Onyx (Linux), when MariaDB 10.3 will be updated manually on CENTOS 7 ?
The point is, we have access to Plesk Onyx with CENTOS 7 only, but Shopware 6 has requirements of at least MariaDB 10.3 or MYSQL 5.7 for installation.
Thanks for hints.
Hello Markus Faber
I would recommend upgrading Plesk to the Obsidian first of all. The upgrade process usually goes smoothly.
Plesk Onyx wasn't tested with MariaDB 10.3. Plesk Onyx should work with it but there's no guarantee that no issue will appear.
Ivan Postnikov,
Thanks for your suggestion.
The Point is, my Hoster has only an Onyx license included in the package. If I want to have Obsidian, I have additional costs for the newer version.
That means in fact, upgrading is no option at this point.
I have Plesk Obsidian 18.0.31 and the new Drupal 9 requires MariaDB 10.4+, how do I get my version 10.1 to 10.4 please? Do you hav any plan to make this possible via your regular Plesk update soon?
I run my Plesk on
Markus Faber the same license can be used on Onyx and Obsidian means you should be able to upgrade Plesk without additional costs, unless you have "perpetual" license. Like my colleague Ivan mentioned MariaDB 10.3 can work only with Obsidian. You may try to create full server snapshot, update MariaDB and see if it works with Onyx, however it will make installation as not supported.
Dilan Rostam At this moment Plesk automatically install version provided by OS itself, Debian 9 goes with 10.1. In order to update you may use this guide.
Anton Maslov: in general you are right that license can be used in this way.
I have a provider, who binds me to the old version. I already tried to update using Plesk update procedure with the result, that the license is restricted to the old version.
Any support plans for MariaDB 10.6 ?

Hello @Berkay Yerbasan, @Robert Krölls
Mariadb 10.6 is not supported, and we expect it not earlier than the Q1 of 2022.
If it was upgraded already, we recommend migrating to another server with supported Mariadb version, or server should be re-deployed with supported Mariadb version (Plesk can be restored from the backup in this case).
I know plesk isn’t compatible with MariaDB 10.6 yet but can a remote MariaDB 10.6 server be used for websites ? I tried it and it works, I was able to add the remote server in plesk and it shows the correct version (10.6.4) and I can create databases and users using plesk. I just wanna make sure it won’t cause issues. Thanks
Hello @Nicolas Labbe,
This is great that MariaDB 10.6 works for your, but it is still not supported: https://docs.plesk.com/release-notes/obsidian/software-requirements/
That is why we cannot guarantee it will not cause issues.
Hello,

How should MariaDB repo file look like? Like this one? Because I dont know if I use in baseurl line for CentOS 8 or RHEL 8?
