Plesk Multi Server with several service nodes is used. How to make sure webmail access is secured for clients at both mail.example.com and webmail.example.com?
When a new domain is created, the mail service is deployed to one of the available service nodes. Unless the manual service node selection is not enabled, the node is selected automatically. It is performed according to Plesk Multi Server internal logic, depending on the IP address type chosen and current service node workload.
The information about the chosen service node is written to DNS zone that is created based on DNS template. The DNS records can be found at Subscriptions > example.com > DNS Settings. Here, IP address of the service node chosen for the mail service deployment can be found. The DNS names mail.example.com and webmail.example.com are associated with this IP address. It means any of these DNS names can be used to enter mail, and the connection will be established with the same service node, the same IP address.
To secure access to webmail service, set up an SSL certificate according to the instructions of the article How to install SSL certificate on webmail in Plesk Onyx? . When it is done, webmail access at webmail.example.com will be automatically secured with HTTPS connection.
To provide the clients with secure access to webmail via mail.example.com, configure DNS alias according to the article How to set up an access to webmail over mail.example.com
