Question
Is it possible to install Plesk on Ubuntu 18.04?
Answer
Yes, Plesk supports Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) starting from Plesk Onyx 17.8.
Note: Limitations for Ubuntu 18.04
-
A dist-upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu 18.04 is supported only with Plesk Obsidian 18.0.30 or higher.
-
Plesk Installer deploys MariaDB by default. In order to have MySQL as a database server, install MySQL prior to the Plesk Installer initializing.

Thank you, Ivan, for your honest reply. Let's hope, that Plesk will offer a working solution soon.
I really loved PLESK and its good suppoert if i first used it. I never ever thought thats so much time intensive and terrible to upgrade from Ubuntu 16 to a later version. Thats a joke to build the server every 4 years from scratch! If i had known this before I had never used PLESK. In the last years I always recommended PLESK to other users, but from now, until there is no simple-working dist-upgrade, I will not do that. The End of standard Support of Ubuntu 16 is April 2021 and no we have October 2020. Are you kidding me that this tool is taking so long to implement. Thats the MOST IMPORTANT TOOL and a basic must have for Plesk.
So my question is:
What is the approximate ETA for this feature?
Best
Manuel
Hello,
We do plan to publish a guide for Ubuntu dist-upgrade16>18 and 18>20 on Plesk Obsidian 18.0.31 version approximately till end of October.
Since one week Ubuntu 18.04.5 by Ionos suggests do-release-upgrade for Ubuntu 20.04.1. The partnership between Plesk and Ionos is usually so good, that upgrades are only suggested if it is possible to do it. I just wanted to do the upgrade this weekend, now, but for the reason you say it is not supported I won't do it. It confuses me. Or I call Ionos server support, if they say it is possible, I'll do it.
Thanks for the great support in 14 years Plesk + Ionos/1and1
Ok Plesk folks, what is the current status? Plesk Obsidian 18.0.31 has been out for a while? Where is the guide? How can I do an in-place upgrade from Ubuntu 16 to 20 RIGHT NOW??
I hope you do not want to force me to switch to cPanel!
Check out this KB article https://support.plesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/213410369 it seems new. There is also a hint in the Administration handbook https://docs.plesk.com/en-US/obsidian/administrator-guide/server-administration/distupgrade-support.74627/
