Error on SSH Terminal on a Plesk server: No entry for terminal type "xterm-256color"

Symptoms

  • When opening SSH Terminal or entering an SSH session with a system user, the following error may appear:

    [root@srv cosmoeconomics.com]# su - ice489458478
    Last login: Fri Aug 23 23:13:39 BST 2024 on pts/0
    Interactive shell

    No entry for terminal type "xterm";
    using dumb terminal settings.

Cause

Misconfiguration on .bashrc file.

Resolution

  1. Log into Plesk via SSH.

  2. Move the .bashrc file out of the way:

    # mv /var/www/vhosts/example.com/.bashrc{,.old}
