MySQL service has stopped after upgrade to Plesk Onyx

Symptoms

MySQL service is unable to start after upgrade to Plesk Onyx with an error in Event Viewer:

Incorrect parameter. (Error code 87) at NetLocalGroupAddMembers(MySQL Service Users, NT Service\\MySQL56)
at (VSID::addGroupMember line 597)
at Configuration of MySQL Service(LocalServiceHelper::_configureService line 217)
at execute console command --repair-local-service(vconsoleapp::start line 122)
at execute "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\admin\\bin\\mysqlmng.exe" --repair-local-service(vconsoleapp::run line 139)
Execute file name: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\admin\\bin\\mysqlmng.exe

Active Directory Domain Services role is installed on the server.

Cause

MySQL Service Users local group is unavailable on the server. This is Plesk bug with ID #PPPM-5171 that is planned to be fixed in future Plesk updates.

Workaround

  1. Change user the MySQL service from a default user, for example NT Service\\MySQL56 , to Local System user using services.msc utility:

  2. Start the MySQL service using services.msc utility

  3. Go to Tools & Settings > Updates & Upgrades and complete the upgrade, if needed.
