HTTP 500 error while one of PHP handlers is used.

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Windows

Symptoms

  • Unable to open website while using one of php handlers. HTTP error 500.0 appears.

  • The following can be found in Failed Request Tracing report:

    ModuleName  FastCgiModule
    Notification 128
    HttpStatus 500
    HttpReason Internal Server Error
    HttpSubStatus 0
    ErrorCode 2147942403
    ConfigExceptionInfo
    Notification EXECUTE_REQUEST_HANDLER
    ErrorCode The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003)

Cause

Unsupported system variable.

Resolution

  1. Go to System properties > Change settings > Advanced > Environment variables > System variables .

  2. Remove 'PHPRC' variable.

  3. Check that the variable is not persist in description of PHP handler in the C:\\Windows\\System32\\inetsrv\\config\\applicationHost.config file:

    </environmentVariables>

  4. Reboot the server to apply changes.

  5. Make sure that there is no custom handlers like PHP-5.3.29 in IIS > Sites > example.com > Handler Mappings
