Health monitor shows more RAM than allocated to the server

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Windows

Symptoms

The server has 8GB of RAM, however, Plesk Health Monitor shows 16GB in memory field.

Cause

Plesk Health Monitor shows physical and virtual memory usage. This value is also known as Committed Memory. Committed Virtual Memory is private, nonshareable virtual memory created by processes or the OS or drives that may need to be paged out. This always starts out in RAM and may get paged out if necessary.

Resolution

User Task Manager instead to show the RAM usage. To see this value, perform the following actions:

  1. Right click on Windows taskbar
  2. Click on Task Manager button
  3. Open Perfomance tab
