Mariadb service is down: Unit mysqld.service failed to load

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

  • Mariadb service is down:

    # systemctl start mariadb
    Failed to start mariadb.service: Unit mysqld.service failed to load: No such file or directory.
  • Mariadb package is installed

  • Symlink /etc/systemd/system/mysqld.service is missing on the file system:

    # ls -l /etc/systemd/system/mysqld.service
    ls: cannot access /etc/systemd/system/mysqld.service: No such file or directory

Cause

Missing symlink /etc/systemd/system/mysqld.service

Resolution

  1. Recreate symlink as follows:

    # systemctl enable mariadb.service 
    Created symlink from /etc/systemd/system/mysqld.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/mariadb.service.
    Created symlink from /etc/systemd/system/mysql.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/mariadb.service.
  2. Start mariadb service:

    # systemctl start mariadb.service
