FTP user is not able to access or create lib directory: Permission Denied

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Symptoms

FTP users are unable to create lib directory or upload any files in it. Permission denied error is shown.

Cause

For security reasons it is not possible to create/modify sensitive directories via ProFTPd.
By default, attempts to do any kind of write to a path under 'etc' and 'lib' will be rejected. Please note that this is default ProFTPd configuration, not Plesk.More information can be found in ProFTPd release notes: http://proftpd.org/docs/RELEASE_NOTES-1.3.5a (1.3.5 section) and http://proftpd.org/docs/modules/mod_rlimit.html#RLimitChroot

Resolution

Use another directory.

It is not recommended to disable this function, but you do it on your own risk:

  1. Add following line in /etc/proftpd.conf :

    RLimitChroot off
  2. Restart xinetd service using following command:

    # /etc/init.d/xinetd restart
