Unable to connect to remote MSSQL server from Plesk:
The test connection to the database server has failed because of network problems:
mssqlmng failed: SQL Server Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]. A network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server is not found or not accessible. Check if instance name is correct and if SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. For more information see SQL Server Books Online. Login timeout expired
Connection via SQL Management Studio is impossible too:
Connect to Server
Cannot connect to 203.0.113.2\<instance name>\.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a
connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible.
Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured
to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 -
Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
Connection over telnet fails:
C:> telnet 203.0.113.2 1433
Connecting To 203.0.113.2...
Could not open connection to the host, on port 1433: Connect failed
MSSQL Server instance on remote server is configured to listen on 1433 port as described in the following article: How to enable remote connections to MS SQL server?
Firewall or network issue on remote server.
- Connect to the remote server via RDP ;
- Navigate to Server Manager > Tools > Windows Firewall with Advanced Security ;
- Select Inbound Rules ;
- Click on New Rule ;
- Choose Port rule type;
- Select TCP protocol and set Specific local ports entry value to be 1433-1434 ;
- Choose Allow the connection ;
- Apply to all profiles;
- Name the rule and create it.
