Question

How to run postfix on multiple ports?

For example, to default smtp port 25 it is needed to add additional 26 port.

Answer

  1. Back up current postfix configuration:

    # cp /etc/postfix/master.cf /root/master_backup
  2. Open /etc/postfix/master.cf and add new port:

    26        inet  n       -       -       -       - smtpd

    So it should look like the following:

    # service type private unpriv chroot wakeup maxproc command + args
    # (yes) (yes) (yes) (never) (100)
    # ==========================================================================
    smtp inet n - - - - smtpd
    #added to enable port 26
    26 inet n - - - - smtpd
  3. Restart postfix:

    # service postfix restart
    Stopping Postfix Mail Transport Agent: postfix.
    Starting Postfix Mail Transport Agent: postfix.
  4. Check that port is listening:

    # netstat -plutn | grep 26
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:26 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 30146/master
    tcp6 0 0 :::26 :::* LISTEN 30146/master
  5. Make sure that this port is opened in server firewall.
