Cron sends emails: /etc/cron.hourly/asl exited with return code 126

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

Note : this article is aproppriate for Debian/Ubuntu distribs only.

  1. After applying KB #129494 to fix error code 127, asl exits with 126 error code, the following email was sent from cron:

    Cron Daemon <root@plesk.example.com>
    Cron <root@plesk> cd / && run-parts --report /etc/cron.hourly
    run-parts: /etc/cron.hourly/asl exited with return code 127
  2. aum version is the latest:

     # dpkg -l | grep aum
    ii aum 4.0.19-40 amd64 Atomicorp Updater Modified
    # dpkg -l | grep aum
    ii aum 4.0.19-40 amd64 Atomicorp Updater Modified
  3. There is a symlink created:

    # ls -l /var/asl/bin/
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Aug 15 14:53 asl -> /var/asl/bin/asl_cli_c

Cause

The symlink should not exist.

Resolution

Remove symlink:

 # rm /var/asl/bin/asl

Execute the following commands to check the exit status of the task:

 # /etc/cron.hourly/asl
# echo $?
0
