Plesk is inacessible after MySQL upgrade on Debian/Ubuntu: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] No such file or directory

Symptoms

  • Unable to access Plesk after upgrade on Ubuntu:

    ERROR: Zend_Db_Adapter_Exception: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] No such file or directory
  • When starting mysql service the following error message is returned:

    # /etc/init.d/mysql start
    start: Job failed to start
  • sql packages are marked as "Unpacked" when executing the dpkg command:

    # dpkg -l | grep mysql
    iU libmysqlclient18:amd64 5.5.53-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 amd64 MySQL database client library
    iU mysql-client-5.5 5.5.53-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 amd64 MySQL database client binaries
    iU mysql-client-core-5.5 5.5.53-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 amd64 MySQL database core client binaries
    iU mysql-server 5.5.53-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 all MySQL database server (metapackage depending on the latest version)
    iU mysql-server-5.5 5.5.53-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 amd64 MySQL database server binaries and system database setup
    iU mysql-server-core-5.5 5.5.53-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 amd64 MySQL database server binaries

Cause

Incomplete installation of mysql packages.

Resolution

  1. Complete the installation by running the following command:

    # apt-get -f install
  2. Start mysql service:

    # service mysql start
