Changing mailing list password shows error: "Failed to change password: listmng failed"

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 10.4 for Linux
  • Plesk 11.0 for Linux

Symptoms

  1. While trying to change the mailing list password gives the error below:

    Error: Failed to change password: listmng failed: listmng: Error: failed to change password for 'QWE_test'.
  2. I try to change password for maillist name with capital letters and get error 'No such list'

    /usr/lib/mailman/bin/change_pw -l 'QWE_test' -p <password>
    No such list "QWE_test"

Cause

Mailman works with lowercase maillist names. Feature request for changing maillist password for uppercase maillist names is created, id #1699035.

Resolution

The simplest way of solving the issue is to use corresponding CLI command with maillist names in lowercase variant:

    /usr/lib/mailman/bin/change_pw -l 'qwe_test' -p <password>
