Emails in webmail inbox are not displayed

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 10.0.1 for Linux
  • Plesk 11.0 for Linux
  • Plesk 11.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 10.3 for Linux

Symptoms

You are unable to view mail messages in the Horde and Atmail webmail Inbox . Inbox messages are present in Maildir, but in a WebMail interface a blank page is visible instead of the Inbox messages.

Cause

The issue occurs because of a sorting issue in Horde, which happens rarely as a result of changing the way messages are sorted in the mailbox.

The issue may occur if the ' courier-imap ' server is advertised ' SORT ' in ' IMAP_CAPABILITY ', but server-side sorting is disabled.

Resolution

To fix the issue with server-side sorting, set the option IMAP_DISABLETHREADSORT=0 in the IMAPD configuration files: /etc/courier-imap/imapd and /etc/courier-imap/imapd-ssl , then restart the 'courier-imap' service.

# service courier-imap restart

To fix the issue on the Horde side, remove sorting preferences for the affected mail account from the Horde database:

  1. Create a backup of the Horde database:

    mysqldump -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` horde > hordebackup.sql
  2. Check and delete the sorting preferences of the mail account:

    mysql> select * from horde_prefs where pref_uid='user@domain.tld' and pref_name='sortpref';

    mysql> delete from horde_prefs where pref_uid='user@domain.tld' and pref_name='sortpref';

    mysql> select * from horde_prefs where pref_uid='user@domain.tld' and pref_name='sortpref';

You can find a discussion about this issue on the Horde forums:

http://lists.horde.org/archives/horde/Week-of-Mon-20101129/039555.html

Additionally for Parallels Plesk Automation:

The insructons above should be performed on the Service Node where the ppa_webmail package is installed. If the admin password for MySQL is not known, you can peform these actions using the horde user:

# mysqldump -uhorde -p`cat /etc/psa-webmail/horde/.horde.shadow` horde > hordebackup.sql
# mysql -uhorde -p`cat /etc/psa-webmail/horde/.horde.shadow` horde

Then, follow to step #2 above.
