Messages are not checked with Kaspersky Antivirus. How to troubleshoot the problem?

Answer

For troubleshooting, verify that the following conditions are satisfied:

1\. Kaspersky Antivirus package is installed. You may check through Parallels Plesk Panel GUI at Home -> Server -> Server Components: kav4ms .

2\. License key for Kaspersky Antivirus is installed. Through Plesk GUI at Home > License Management > Additional License Keys: KAV001230450067

and on the file system:

# ls -l /var/db/kav/5.5/kav4mailservers/licenses/
total 12
-rw-rw---- 1 kluser klusers 1712 Apr 30 07:44 _KAV001230450067_.key
-rw-r--r-- 1 root   root    1288 Apr 30 07:53 appinfo.dat
-rw-r--r-- 1 root   root     936 Apr 30 07:49 appinfo.kli
#

where KAV001230450067 is Kaspersky antivirus key number.

3\. Kaspersky Antivirus application is up and running. Start the application through Plesk GUI at Modules -> Kaspersky Antivirus.Use the following command to start the service from command like:

# /etc/init.d/aveserver start

The service may not be started because virus definition databases are missing. For details please see article Kaspersky Antivirus Engine cannot be strated with error "Active key not found!"

4\. Kaspersky Antivirus is enabled in server-wide Mail Server Settings. Verify at Home > Mail Server Settings > Antivirus preferences: Kaspersky Antivirus

5\. Kaspersky Antivirus is enabled for mail account. Verify at Domains > domain name > Mail Accounts > mail name > domain name > Antivirus > Antivirus preferences

When enable Kaspersky Antivirus for mail account handlers 20-kav-\* are created. You may check they exist in file system wth the following command:

# find /usr/local/psa/handlers -name '*kav*'
/usr/local/psa/handlers/before-remote/global/20-kav-JyUryM <- handler for outgoing messages
/usr/local/psa/handlers/info/20-kav-JyUryM
/usr/local/psa/handlers/info/20-kav-Xdhvtv
/usr/local/psa/handlers/before-queue/global/20-kav-Xdhvtv <- handler for incoming messages
#

6\. If Postfix MTA is used on Plesk server verify configuration file /etc/postfix/master.cf contains the following configuraiton parameters:

smtp inet n - - - - smtpd -o smtpd\\_proxy\\_filter=127.0.0.1:10025
smtps inet n - - - - smtpd -o smtpd\\_proxy\\_filter=127.0.0.1:10025 -o smtpd\\_tls\\_wrappermode=yes

You may configure Postfix as you like, but ensure that smtp and smtps contain `-o smtpd\\_proxy\\_filter` string with valid smtpd proxy port.
