Unable to connect to SFTP.

Symptoms

  • Unable to connect to SFTP. It throws following error :

    subsystem request failed on channel 0
    Couldn't read packet: Connection reset by peer
  • Getting error initiating the migration task in task log

    [ERROR] Error downloading file: Channel closed.
  • Following errors are found in system log:

    Apr 29 10:07:43 www sshd[16549]: Accepted password for username from ::ffff:123.123.123.123 port 22 ssh2
    Apr 29 10:07:44 www sshd[16588]: subsystem request for sftp
    Apr 29 10:07:44 www sshd[16588]: error: subsystem: cannot stat /usr/libexec/sftp-server: No such file or directory
    Apr 29 10:07:44 www sshd[16588]: subsystem request for sftp failed, subsystem not found

Cause

Path to SFTP server in SSH daemon config is was not properly configured.

Resolution

  1. Locate sftp-server on the server
  2. Edit SSH configuration file /etc/ssh/sshd_config and set path to sftp server in Subsystem sftp
    # grep Subsystem /etc/ssh/sshd_config
    Subsystem sftp /usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server
