Plesk BIND service cannot be started.
The following rows exist in
/var/log/messagescontains following errors:
CONFIG_TEXT: named: listening on IPv4 interface lo, 127.0.0.1#53
named: listening on IPv4 interface eth0, 203.0.113.2#53
named: could not open file '/var/run/named/named.pid': Permission denied
named: generating session key for dynamic DNS
named: could not open file '/var/run/named/session.key': Permission denied
named: could not create /var/run/named/session.key
named: failed to generate session key for dynamic DNS: permission denied
named: sizing zone task pool based on 3 zones
named: could not configure root hints from 'named.root': file not found
named: loading configuration: file not found
named: exiting (due to fatal error)``
The lack of permissions or some files required for correct working capapcity of the DNS service are missing.
Make sure that permissions for the
/var/named/chroot/var/runfolder are correct:
# ls -la /var/named/chroot/var/ | grep run
drwxr-xr-x 3 named named 4096 Nov 14 2001 run
Set permissions to the correct one if it is required by executing of the following commands:
# chmod 0755 /var/named/chroot/var/run
# chown named:named /var/named/chroot/var/run
If the issue still persists reinstall Plesk BIND service by performing the following actions:
Go to Plesk > Tools & Settings > Updates and Upgrades > Add/Remove Components.
Click on BIND DNS server and then to Remove.
Press Continue, wait until the installation is completed and press the OK button.
Click on Add/Remove Components again.
Install the DNS server back by clicking on BIND DNS server and pressing on the Install button.
Wait until the installation is completed and press the OK button.
