Custom settings in /etc/bind directory are not applied to DNS

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

Defined custom settings in /etc/bind directory are not applied to DNS in Plesk.

The following configuration file is used by Plesk:

# ps auxwwwf | grep named
bind /usr/sbin/named -t /var/named/run-root -c /etc/named.conf -u bind -n 2

etc/named.conf is linked to /var/named/run-root/etc/named.conf :

    # ls -la /etc/named.conf
/etc/named.conf -> /var/named/run-root/etc/named.conf

Cause

DNS service uses different configuration file: /etc/named.conf . So, DNS configuration file is located at /var/named/run-root/etc/named.conf . This file is generated by Plesk and does not contain includes that are written in /etc/bind/ directory.

Resolution

Modify DNS settings in Plesk GUI rather than customizing other files that are not used by Plesk.
