Plesk allows to create alias with duplication prefix www like www.www.alias.tl

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 11.x for Linux

Note: This article has the reference to the issue with the fix available:

  • #PPPM-1946 "The administrator can now prohibit creation of domains (including also domain aliases, subdomains, and subscriptions) with the www prefix, by adding the following line to the [domainManagement] section of the panel.ini file: features.restrictStartWithWww = on"
    Fixed in:
Please consider updating your server:

Symptoms

When you create domain alias, Plesk allows you to create alias with www prefix. For example, creating alias with name www.alias.tld in Plesk, will create DNS record as below:

    www.alias.tld. A 1.2.3.4
www.www.alias.tld. CNAME www.alias.tld.

How to avoid creation of duplicated prefix like www.www.alias.tld? Plesk should show warning telling that www should not be used during alias creation as Plesk create it automatically.

Resolution

Enhancement request PPPM-1946 is created and will be implemented in the future Plesk version. Plesk will show warning about duplicated www records if client tries to create alias with www prefix.
