Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

Users can not login to mailboxes.

In /var/log/maillog following failed attempt can be found:

Sep 13 23:28:45 server courier-imaps: LOGIN FAILED, user=user@example.com, ip=[::ffff:87.160.220.134]

Domain doesn't exist in /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mail_auth_view :

# /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mail_auth_view | grep example.com
#

Manual execution of /usr/lib/plesk-9.0/remote_mail_restore/mail_auth_dump fails with:

# /usr/lib/plesk-9.0/remote_mail_restore/mail_auth_dump
[2016-09-13 21:58:08] ERR [util_exec] proc_close() failed
Error: /opt/psa/admin/bin/mail_auth_dump.worker[40508]: Input parse error: Invalid or unsupported Unicode character or escape sequence found in string. UTF8 encoded characters and '\\u' escape sequences are not supported. Error occured at offset 4727, character '\\'.

Cause

Password from mail account contains \\u . This sequence is not supported.

Resolution

  1. Execute /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mail_auth_view and find passwords with \\u sequence.

  2. Change password for found mail accounts.

  3. Execute /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mchk --with-spam .

If passwords with \\u sequence will not be found:

  1. Enable debug log (without show.sql_query ).

  2. Execute /usr/lib/plesk-9.0/remote_mail_restore/mail_auth_dump and from the output find passwords with \\u sequence.

  3. Change password for found mail accounts.

  4. Execute /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mchk --with-spam .
