A lot of errors in Apache error_log - AH01610: Maximum new request methods 62 reached while registering method

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

NGinx error.log contains many errors alike:

2016/09/16 09:25:52 [emerg] 844666#0: io_setup() failed (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
2016/09/16 09:26:48 [emerg] 846868#0: io_setup() failed (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
2016/09/16 12:30:26 [emerg] 157739#0: io_setup() failed (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)

Apache error_log flooded with the folllowing error messages:

[Mon Sep 12 18:49:22.053428 2016] [http:error] [pid 732180:tid 139651037742848] AH01610: Maximum new request methods 62 reached while registering method head="".
[Mon Sep 12 18:49:22.891098 2016] [http:error] [pid 732180:tid 139651104884480] AH01610: Maximum new request methods 62 reached while registering method get="".
[Mon Sep 12 18:49:22.891147 2016] [http:error] [pid 732180:tid 139651104884480] AH01610: Maximum new request methods 62 reached while registering method post="".

Cause

Invalid HTTP method name provided in .htaccess file in <Limit> directive.

Resolution

  1. Find .htaccess files having method(s) from the error message:

    # find /var/www/vhosts -name \\.htaccess -exec  grep  -n 'head\|post\|get' '{}' /dev/null \;
  2. Edit file and replace invalid names like get="" , head="" with corresponding GET , HEAD etc...

    Note: The method name is case-sensitive.
