Plesk installation fails on the "Configuring MySQL Server" step

Symptoms

Installation of Plesk components fails on the "Configuring MySQL Server" step.

The following error can be observed in autoinstaller log (the default location is C:\\ParallelsInstaller\\autoinstaller3.log ):

Command "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\admin\\bin\\local_mysql_helper.exe" --repair-database-root-password failed
with code 3.

Failed to change database user password: Execute C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\MySQL\\bin\\mysql.exe --host=local
host --port=3306 --user=admin --password="****" mysql --execute="UPDATE mysql.user SET mysql.user.Password = PASSWORD('!437UoIqZx') WHERE mysql.user.User = 'admin' AND (mysql.user.Password = OLD_PASSWORD('****') OR mysql.user.Pa
ssword = PASSWORD('****')); FLUSH PRIVILEGES;" failed[1]: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Cause

The 3306 port is used by another instance of mysqld.exe process.

Resolution

  1. Check the current state of port 3306:

    > netstat -aon | findstr 3306
    TCP 0.0.0.0:3306 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 4440
    TCP 0.0.0.0:3306 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 1912
    TCP [::]:3306 [::]:0 LISTENING 4440
  2. Determine the processes by their PID:

    > tasklist | findstr 4440
    mysqld.exe 4440 Services 0 16,936 K

    > tasklist | findstr 1912
    mysqld.exe 1912 Services 0 16,936 K
  3. Check running services (open services.msc ) and stop redundant
