InnoDB databases are available even in the VPS-optimized mode

Symptoms

I installed the Parallels Plesk Panel and enabled the VPS-optimized mode that switched off the InnoDB engine support. After that, I installed the new version of the MySQL server (template pp-mysql5.1, for example). InnoDB engine became available even in the VPS-optimized mode.

Cause

The new MySQL installation overwrites the original configuration files that optimize the Parallels Plesk Panel performance. You can check the current MySQL configuration with the command:

# MYSQL_PWD=`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` mysql -u admin -e"SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'have_innodb'"

If you see the following result, the VPS-optimized mode is corrupted:

  +---------------+-------+
| Variable_name | Value |
+---------------+-------+
| have_innodb | YES |
+---------------+-------+

Resolution

Perform the following actions to correct MySQL settings:

  1. Restart MySQL service with command:

    # /etc/init.d/mysql restart
  2. Repair the VPS-optimized mode by running an appropriate command:

    Under Debian-like OSes, run:

    # /opt/psa/bin/vps_optimized --turn-on --aspect mysql-innodb

    Under RPM-like Linux OSes, run:

    # /usr/local/psa/bin/vps_optimized --turn-on --aspect mysql-innodb
  3. Restart MySQL service again.

The VPS-optimized mode will be repaired.
