Cannot activate fail2ban: Found no accessible config files for 'filter.d/ssh' under /etc/fail2ban

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Symptoms

fail2ban activation failed with the following error message at Plesk > Tools & Settings > IP Address Banning (Fail2Ban):

PLESK_ERROR: Error: f2bmng failed: ERROR Found no accessible config files for 'filter.d/ssh' under /etc/fail2ban
ERROR No section: 'Definition'
ERROR No section: 'Definition'
ERROR Unable to read the filter
ERROR Errors in jail 'ssh'. Skipping...
ERROR:f2bmng:Failed to start fail2ban service

Cause

Fail2ban misconfiguration.

Resolution

  1. Login to the server via SSH.
  2. Open /etc/fail2ban/jail.local file and rename [ssh] section to [sshd].
  3. Activate fail2ban in Plesk
