Sending messages from non-existent user.

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

  1. There is a record in the log about authentication from non-existent user (user@example.com):

    Apr 18 18:59:01 username postfix/smtpd[8691]: B550E84102: client=server.localhost[10.20.30.40], sasl_method=LOGIN, sasl_username=user@exmaple.com
  2. The user@example.com mailbox is added as an alias to a mailbox other mailbox under domain, e.g. info@example.com .

Cause

This email addresses associated with a user's primary (or main) email address.

Resolution

This is an expected behavior. When an alias user@example.com is added to a mailbox info@example.com , user can log into this mailbox using both usernames ( info@example.com and user@example.com ) with the password of the original one.

Remove that alias if it is needed. All the content of the mailbox will not be deleted. Additional information could be found in Plesk documentation
