Plesk AMI instance cannot be licensed: Failed to update key

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

  1. Plesk is deployed in Amazon EC2 web service AMI (Amazon Machine Images). License was not created after deployment in License Management menu.

  2. The following errors are shown in /var/log/plesk/amazon_setup.log file (on Linux) or %plesk_bin%\\amazon\\amazon_prepare_instance.log file (on Windows):

    ERR [panel] Failed to update key. Attempt: 1
    ERR [panel] Failed to update key. Attempt: 2
    Error: connect() timed out!, retry...

Cause

Connection issues on a server. Server could not connect to Plesk licensing server to get a license.

Resolution

  1. Check if connection to Plesk licensing server is setup correctly according to steps here:

  2. 808 License fails to update

If there are issues with connection, contact your network administrator to configure connection properly.

  1. Re-deploy Plesk according to Deployment Guide .

Note: It is not possible to license a server after network issues are fixed because license is created right after an instance has been deployed.
