Websites are not accessible: Unable to connect

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 11.5 for Linux

Symptoms

  1. Web sites are not opening. There is an error in web browser:

    Unable to connect
    Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at example.com
  2. Nginx server is failed to start with following error:

    /etc/init.d/nginx start
    nginx: [emerg] BIO_new_file("/opt/psa/var/certificates/certliYciMh") failed (SSL: error:02001002:system library:fopen:No such file or directory:fopen('/opt/psa/var/certificates/certliYciMh','r') error:2006D080:BIO routines:BIO_new_file:no such file)
    nginx: configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed
  3. Port 80 is not listened:

    # netstat -nlp | grep 80
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8880 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 575/sw-cp-serverd
    tcp6 0 0 :::7080 :::* LISTEN 761/apache2
    tcp6 0 0 :::8880 :::* LISTEN 575/sw-cp-serverd

Cause

SSL certificate issue.

Resolution

  1. Make sure if the required certificate is available at the requested directory:

    # ls -la /opt/psa/var/certificates/cert*
    -r-------- 1 root root 3048 Nov 20 18:24 cert-inpzUr
  2. If not, then copy the file from existing default certificate:

    #cp -a /opt/psa/var/certificates/cert-inpzUr /opt/psa/var/certificates/certliYciMh

    # ls -la /opt/psa/var/certificates/cert*
    -r-------- 1 root root 3048 Nov 20 18:24 cert-inpzUr
    -r-------- 1 root root 3048 Nov 20 18:24 certliYciMh
  3. Start the service and make sure it is running:

    # /etc/init.d/nginx start
    * Starting NGINX nginx [ OK ]
    # /etc/init.d/nginx status
    * nginx is running
  4. Chech that port 80 is listened:

    # netstat -nlp | grep 80
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:7080 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 8738/apache2
    tcp 0 0 10.0.0.121:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 8754/nginx
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8880 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 1275/sw-cp-serverd
    tcp6 0 0 :::8880 :::* LISTEN 1275/sw-cp-serverd
